Creating and strengthening relationships with local organizations and community groups in Panama
Clinics + Community + Partnerships
In collaboration with LocalNPTYKids Panama NGO, the US Embassy PAS and INL offices, and other local organizations in Panama, FLO delivered soccer 6 youth clinics or programs.
Program background
In our 3rd successive year in the program we saw participants from year 1 return as volunteers to hello lead clinics for younger participants. This is a testament to our efforts of giving youth participants the tools they need to not only succeed but to be leaders in their own communities.
Program 1: 150 Participants boys and girls ages 4-19 years old.collaboration with the Embassy and other partners allowed for participants to eac receive a soccer ball, a draw string back(notebook, pen, water bottle) and other partners provided healthy snacks for all participating members.
Food security is also a challenge in these parts, so for each one of our clinics we ensure that participants have water, snacks and every opportunity to participate without feeling left out.
Program 2: This program was for 25-30 Youth participants with autism, down syndrome and other conditions. Similar to 1st clinics: participants of all skill levels and ages join us and participate in a fun interactive and engaging session.
El Chorrillo Programs
In collaboration with Localnptykids our San Blas program is an extension in our commitment to empowering the rural communities in Panama, including the Gunas.
Who are the Gunas? They’re the native people living on the San Blas Islands, and call themselves either Kuna’s or Guna’s. The region in Panama where you can find them is now officially renamed to Guna Yala, but most still refer to them as San Blas.
They’re actually the first indigenous group in Latin America to gain political autonomy, and have their own laws, norms, and values which is completely different than traditional Panamanian culture!
